Liberty, Order, and an American Pope
Pope Leo XIV is the first American pope, and one prominent theme of his first encyclical, Magnfica humanitas (The Grandeur of Humanity) is “freedom and responsibility.”
“Freedom and responsibility” sounds a lot like “Liberty and Order”!
So while this does not touch directly on the American Founding and the usual themes of this SubStack, I thought you still might be interested in my thoughts on the first encyclical of the first American pope.
I have, after all, written extensively on Catholic Social Teaching and the Catholic Church in America, not to mention Pope Leo XIV, Leo XIII, and even Pope Francis.
