Should Conservatives Conserve the American Founding?
Yes. Here's why.
If American conservatives are not to “conserve” the core principles of the American Founding, then the term, “conservative,” becomes meaningless. As my new book, The Christian Roots of American Liberty: A Reader, edited with Dylan Pahman, shows, these principles were not creations of the secular Enlightenment but had deep, ancient Christian roots.
But don’t take my word for it. The book is a reader with primary sources. Read the sources yourself, and discover the long thought process and development of concepts like private property, limited government, representation and consent, and religious.
That these came together in the American Revolution in a distinctive way is undeniable. But where did they start?
